LET NO RAGING STORM DETER...

While the storm raged outside eight intrepid women joined in this Sunday Studio Workshop.  They shared stories, created art pieces, learned new techniques, played, ate wonderful shared food, and more.  When the power momentarily went out, without pause cell phones popped out with light to enable them to continue the work at hand. 

What a joyful day! My heart was full. This group of women was warm and welcoming to each other, to me, and to the new adventures in creating. The storm was as nothing to the beautiful energy inside the studio.  As student Nadine said, they were "immersed in creative mojo." So bring on those storms! The mojo is working.

ART--such a small word and yet it comes in so very many forms and materials.  Making art--whether painting in oils, acrylics, watercolors, doing encaustics, handmade books, photography, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, jewelry, textiles, or more--is magic. And, while you can learn a lot of art techniques from the plethora of online videos available or from books, LIVE workshops are magical.  There is an energy that occurs when like-minded folks get together to create. Workshops are FUN and there is the magic that occurs in an atmosphere of inspiration, fun, support...and a passion for creativity.

FULL MOON OF WINTER

Tonight's full moon has been called by native American Indians a "wolf moon."  When the cold, deep snows of mid-winter came, wolf packs howled hungrily outside the Indian's villages.  It was in this way that the name was given to the January full moon.
We have no deep snows here in the lowlands of Southern California and instead of wolves only coyote howls can be heard in the night. The light of the moon as we snuggle deep in our covers is no less entrancing however.  
There is something primal and creative about the fullness of the moon and I imagine ethereal and artistic beings playing by the light of the moon.
