WILL IT GET DONE THIS TIME??

What is this pile? You wonder, right? Doesn't look like much...and in fact really isn't. But....It has potential, I think.

Every time I receive an order from my printer the green paper that pads things calls out to me with that potential. I see birds especially...sculpted from the lovely stuff. Plump little green guys. Maybe painted. Maybe not. Maybe with wire legs, button eyes? Possibility. Potential.

But each time, after a while, I have not done it and the paper goes to the recycle bin. Will it happen this time?

Does anyone else have more ideas than time to explore them or is it just me? I doubt it's just me.

WHAT IS LEFT BEHIND

Footsteps in the sand
This morning in the dark of pre-dawn, as the chirping of rising birds sounded outside, I found myself thinking of not only what we leave in our wake, but also what is left after something like the recent road trip taken with daughter Jenna.

While describing the trip in brief to friend Maggie I realized I was mostly leaving out the "left behinds" like joy and laughter that come from shared moments with a loved one. I was leaving out the exhilaration of a completed hike. I omitted the feeling of awe of standing atop a white sand dune while others stretched out seemingly forever. The musical notes still singing in my head from Jenna's huge collection of song was yet another, vast, lingering thing.

Memories and more........

APRIL: DISTRACTIONS AND ABSTRACTIONS

Abstract play
April days have arrived filled with the joys of springtime...and distractions. Clouds scudding across a cerulean sky. Birds of every size and shape ply these same skies--blue-black crows calling out to each other, bejeweled hummingbirds, plunking pelicans, laughing gulls, and more. Hills rich with the color of flowers from poppies to lupin to nasturtium to mustard and sourgrass. The cool spring air is rich with sight and sound and the sweet smell of spring.

And so, amid the wonderful distractions of spring, I find myself playing with abstractions. Who knows where this might go?

WHAT SIGNALS SPRING?

In the Pink!
In California we certainly do not have the groundhog (not that he is really so reliable anyway) so what does signal Spring to us?
Is it the sparkle like diamonds on the ocean's blue-green waters? Is it the brisk breeze on a clear sunny day? Is it the call of baby crows in the trees? The chirping of myriad birds everywhere? Or is it the blossoming buds on ornamental fruit trees? The sound of laughter in the streets?
For me, probably all of the above are signals. What about you--what signals Spring to you?
