BLESSINGS OF IMAGINATIONS

Imagination is such a rich and wonderful thing. Best of all, we all have it and it need not cost a thing. Something wondrous can be conjured out of nothing.

Imagination can go in all sorts of different directions. It can take us into a world of fancy and fantasy; it can bring the past into the present; it can solve problems, write screenplays and novels and poems; it can paint pictures in remembered or fanciful images...and so much more.

Where do we draw the line? How is it that we often find it difficult to go from that which we can visualize, create, conceive to assuming its truth and expecting it to happen? What is needed to transition from the imagined to the "real"?

Commitment? Action? Probably some of both. Imagine you can. Take steps to make it happen. Then, Providence gets its chance; serendipity comes into play.
Begin. 'Cause why not?

Why not?

Week one, Blog number two. So far so good. 
The mail art card to the left seems to express yet another thought on resolutions. Why not resolve to be creative in the year to come? 
There are so very many ways to do "creative," at least I think so. But, going back to the "Success" post, one of the best things is to just do it (Oh, no, not that Nike quote again!)
Seriously, though, creativity, like flying, starts with doing.
Begin, fail, succeed, do it again, begin again, fail, do it,.........
So why not take a class or workshop?
Watch a YouTube video to learn something new and try it? Pick up pen, pencil, paint brush, even crayon and paper and just begin drawing? 
There are myriad ways to "just do it" so why not begin?

Happy New Year (inspired by Jacki Long)

Beginnings and endings...this day into night marks them for so many of us. At this time of year, rather than resolutions, I strive to embrace something, while letting go of something else. There are always possibilities.
What will those things be for 2018? I don't yet know. I DO know that I seek to explore more, to spend more time with family and friends, to say "yes" to more...the list is unending.
Workshops are a place I am already stretching
and hoping for changes. The schedule has only 
just begun to show up.It will start with some 
fun in January creating fun figures in collage and
move in February to an intensive image transfer
session. I hope many of you will join in for the
fun.

Always possibilities

JUST DO IT!

Just did it!

The turnaround for this month's Round Robin Journal just seemed to come up in my face way too fast. Booth teardown from the summer's Sawdust Art Festival, stitches in my hand that hampered, clean and clear stuff that had been waiting too long, appointments put off until now...just too many things screaming to be done. Creative play just did not seem in the cards. Still...I felt guilt at not pushing myself harder. To just write "save for Cherril" seemed a cop-out. So I pulled the journal right back out of the envelope and went to work. Such a satisfying thing to do. Innovative? Ground-breaking? Nope. But an accomplishment nevertheless. Mailing tomorrow...on time even :) And I loved having the creative time and my fingers in paint once again.

PLAYING AROUND

Playing around in the studio while cleaning, I came across these funny fellows and just imagined the conversation they might have. Thinking that I will probably use this in my next newsletter to go out next week...kinda cuz why not, right?

SUMMER BEGINNINGS

Beginnings

Beginning the summer's Sawdust Art Festival is a bit like the beginning of a mixed media piece. There is an idea, a concept, perhaps.  Some excitement and anticipation exists.  Then, some trial and error.  And, ultimately, the finished piece.  
We are now at the beginning of the festival period of 66 days.  I am recalling from all the previous years the things I love about this process that are so much like the creating itself. In just the one day I have been there the enjoyment of the visitors has been engaging and gratifying--a real boost to offset things like lights not working or not feeling quite "there" yet.
These opportunities to share and swap stories and revisit past times with old and new friends are unmatched.  The "finished piece" of the festival season seems far away on this Sunday morning, but it will be here all too soon.  In the meantime, the moments are here to explore, experience and enjoy. Curious to see how it goes, I lean into the joy of it all!

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS

#131--Home for the Summer

Maybe not much to look at right now, but this will be my home away from home for this summer's busy Sawdust Art Festival season.  Booth pick was done yesterday and now the countdown begins. The 50th anniversary of this Laguna artist showcase opens to the public on Friday, June 24th and there is much to be done before that date arrives.  Not least of these is getting a satisfactory structure built on the pictured site.
I am excited to return to this street-side location with a view of the world outside.  It is deep and open-feeling with plenty of room to create while I am there.  WooHoo!!!
